Enhancing Employee Skills at Board24 Coalville

Share

Board24 employee Ian Hurst has successfully completed a FLT ‘Train the Trainer’ course in order to train other lift truck equipment operators within the business. Ian is a long serving employee at the Coalville site and is always keen for additional challenges, so undertaking this course was perfect for him and in line with the company’s ethos to constantly train and enhance the skill levels of its employees.

Ian completed the challenging 10 day course which gives attendees the skills to train and test staff on fork lift trucks and other material handling equipment. Upon completion of the course Ian is able to recall and discuss relevant legislation and guidance, and have the ability to plan, prepare and deliver fork truck training and testing.

The course concludes with an examination, which must be successfully completed in order to qualify as an RTITB Lift Truck Instructor. Successful candidates are eligible to register on the RTITB Register of Professional Instructors.

Shawn Summerton, Operations Manager at Coalville commented; “In addition to being the team leader of the department, Ian has now been working for Board24 in excess of 22 years, which made him a natural choice to become our FLT trainer. Ian has provided health and safety training to employees for a number of years, giving him a good background in effectively delivering a training course.”

Having an accredited instructor onsite not only enhances employee skills and capabilities, it also provides benefit to the company. Having an onsite, self-training organisation will save time and cost, and furthermore ensures FLT operators are continually practicing safe movement around the site.
