David Dow, Coalville’s Engineering Manager joined Board24 in 1994 and has over 40 years’ experience in engineering, having previously worked in process and manufacturing industries before becoming a member of the Board24 team. David started his career as an engineering apprentice before working at British Coal for 18 years. Starting out at Board24 on the night shift, David moved onto Mechanical Supervisor before becoming Engineering Manager, a role which he has held for over 15 years.
He is the point of contact for all aspects of engineering and is responsible for maintenance and upkeep of the machines across the site. David became Engineering Manager when his successor moved sites in 2002, prior to this he was Engineering Supervisor.
David has been involved in the planning and delivery of numerous machine upgrades and installations over the years, along with planned maintenance to ensure the factory continues to run smoothly and efficiently as possible. With more planned upgrades and maintenance projects over the next year, he will certainly be kept busy, proving to be a vital asset to the Board24 team.
Overseeing a team of 16, combining purchasing and engineering; changes and additions to the team has enabled David to accommodate the introduction of the casemakers, increased shifts patterns and weekend crews. David likes working alongside a strong team, including three colleagues who he has known for 30 years during their time in previous roles. He enjoys the variety of the job as all parts of the role are different, plus the support and experience of the senior management team.
Outside of work David enjoys abit of ‘speed’, preferable on two wheels! Whilst his motorbike track days have gone, he still enjoys watching and attending Moto GP and BSB meetings, taking to the road on a bicycle to keep fit. David likes to keep active, he enjoys weekends away in his motorhome, entertaining the grandchildren, taking in the local sites with his dogs, and spending time with family and good friends.
