After 25 years at Board24, Coalville’s Engineering Manager David Dow has decided to retire. With over 40 years’ of experience in engineering, David has been a vital asset to the company from day one. He rose up through the ranks from originally starting on the night shift, to become Mechanical Supervisor and finally Engineering Manager, a title of which he has held for over 15 years when his predecessor moved sites.
David has been involved in the planning and delivery of numerous machine upgrades and installations over the years, along with planned maintenance to ensure the factory continues to run as smoothly and efficiently as possible as well as overseeing a team of 16. He is now, however, very much looking forward to retirement.
David says “I kind of come alive during the spring, summer months; I’m a keen motor biker and still ride for pleasure. I attend quite a few British Superbike meetings throughout the year & Moto GP when it comes around. I use my motorhome to camp over long weekends at these events and looking forward to being able to do this more.I’m also going to the IOM TT practice week this year on my bike with friends and planning the actual race week next year.
“I also want to use my motorhome more often for long weekends away with my wife, Grandson and our dogs, something I’m not currently able to do just now, with juggling holidays etc. We have been holidaying to long haul destinations, primarily India and Indochina; we will be going to Thailand again this April. I plan to continue travelling abroad more in the future.”
Taking over David’s position as Engineering Manager will be Michael Lennon who, like David, has risen up through the ranks at Board24. He originally started with the company 13 years ago, originally as a shift electrician, then becoming Engineering Team Leader, to then Assistant Manager only last year.
Michael says “In a very short space of time, it has become apparently obvious that this is no ordinary role to fill. David’s ‘can do’ legacy epitomizes the Board 24 mission statement ‘make it possible.’ I am very pleased to have been given the opportunity to be David’s successor and I am sure the next step will, ‘leave no stone unturned.’ I look forward to my future development, challenges and above all, this new and exciting chapter in my life.”
David has been the point of contact for all aspects of engineering and has been responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the machines across the site and is going to be greatly missed by his team, 3 of which he has known for over 30 years during their time in previous roles.
Our Managing Director Richard says “David has been an integral member of the Management team for many years and has contributed to the growth and success of the Coalville site. A major turning point for the site was the introduction of our first Case maker in 2009 swiftly followed by a further three. They were all installed and commissioned by David and his team.
“David’s approach complements Board24’s strap line “Make it Possible” and he has delivered on this during his long career.
“A no nonsense Manager who has firm views on how things are done, never afraid to ruffle a few feathers, no grey areas and a sense of urgency which has held him in good stead.
“We will miss his input, his knowledge and experience gained over the years as well as his commitment to getting things done.
“A big thank you from all of us on his well-earned retirement. We wish him many years of good health and happiness doing all the things he enjoys.”
