Colour Consistency Every Time

Cases24 have recently introduced spectrophotometers on each of its casemakers to enhance the quality control measures in place. Each colour of ink printed on a case requires a match within a tolerance to a customer’s approved and expected print shade.

Spectrophotometer data is the DNA of colour and can capture the target colour DNA at the point of approval. Having the colour data is extremely valuable, when measuring a standard the operator knows that it is right, there is no concern about colour deviations over time and enables the operator to maintain colour constancy throughout the production run and for the next time the job is run.

Simply relying on visual evaluation of colour is risky, we all perceive colours differently, depending on factors such as time of day, light, age, tiredness, which can all contribute to colour variations. Therefore, using a spectrophotometer is extremely consistent, the device can eliminate any human vision anomalies, giving accurate colour data every time.

The devices are operator friendly as they are situated on the machines, giving the information they need to make any adjustments to obtain the correct colour on the machine, thus reducing time lost taking a sample to the ink room to measure.

A spectrophotometer is also useful in the ink kitchen to check the quality of incoming inks and to validate ink formulations. Using a spectrophotometer in conjunction with ink formulation software enables the company to coordinate with ink suppliers with very specific guidance and to check incoming supplies for compliance. This can also make it easier to use leftover inks, reducing overall ink inventory.

Paul Elliott, Cases24 Conversion Manager comments; “Colour accuracy is key, these devices are a critical way to measure colour. Matching printed cases against approved colour swatches gives customers the confidence that they will be guaranteed a perfect colour match on every production run.”
