On Sunday 24th September, Board24 Customer Services Administrator Kelly Schofield took part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon in Nottingham in aid of Friends for Impact.

Kelly took to the streets of Nottingham alongside her friend Suzanne, who sadly lost her son Alfi at the age of four in December 2011 to a rare aggressive brain tumour, Medulloblastoma Anaplastic Metastatic.  Since losing Alfi his family and friends have been fundraising in his memory to raise vital funds for The Children’s Brain Tumour Research Centre – University of Nottingham.

The girls trained hard, but despite suffering from injury in the weeks leading up to the event, Kelly was determined to complete the run and raised £280 for the charity.

Kelly commented; “We trained hard but personally it was an injury nightmare for me, I’m pretty sure my body hates running! I wanted to run as much of the race as my body would allow, either way I wanted to cross the finish line. I am unbelievably grateful to all those who donated, big or small it all makes a difference.”

Friends For Impact have raised over £50,000 in Alfi’s memory helping fund life changing research and student support at the University of Nottingham. During 2017, Friends For Impact are going to continue to raise funds and awareness of childhood brain tumours in Alfi’s memory whilst helping to celebrate and support the ground-breaking work of the Children’s Brain Research Centre during its 20th anniversary year.
