As National Careers Week gets underway we meet one of our new apprentices, Abby Melling.
Abby is our Transport Administration Apprentice and is based at our Preston site.
Abby joined the team just over 3 months ago and is a welcome addition, making a difference to the transport department at this site.
From efficient planning to maximise load fill and delivery slots, to optimising customer OTIF expectancy and working co-operatively with other departments, Abby’s day to day duties are wide and varied.
Alongside these activities, Abby is completing a level 3 business administration qualification with GFTS Skills Academy.
When asked about her role Abby commented; “I have learnt so much! No two days are the same and every day I learn a new skill that helps me complete a job.
“I love how supportive everyone is and how willing they are to help if I need it. I also like the feeling of responsibility and independence this job gives me. I am finding the apprenticeship really good, and the learning very informative and more my style of learning, as I’m an active learner. It’s going really well and I am looking forward to the rest of it.’
Jacqui Savage, Transport Team Leader at Preston said; “Abby is breath of fresh air, a great addition to our team and is keeping me young! She is a very quick learner; we only need to show her how do something once and she’s cracked it. She has settled in really quickly and has built good relationships already with staff within the department and customers.”
Outside of work, Abby enjoys watching tv shows – her top 3 favourite shows are: Friends, Big Bang Theory and Prison Break. Abby is also a people person who enjoys being with her partner and friends.
Looking forwards, Abby is excited about her future saying , “I am really looking forward to my future here at Board24 and I am hoping my apprenticeship will become a permanent job role so I can develop my career with them further.”
