Alex is well known to the Board24 Coalville customer base having worked at Board24 since the inception of Cases24 in 2009. Alex has been part of the Coalville management team under Richard McBride for 10 years and Dominic Drew since. A lot has happened since 2009 with the introduction of 4 casemakers at Coalville, a new corrugator and building extension at Preston and the material handling lines work recently completed at Coalville.

Alex joined Board24 following involvement in the graduate programme at Mondi Packaging, having worked at a number of sites within the group. Originally employed as Sales Manager of the Coalville site to manage sales of cases and sheet board, Alex describes Board24 as “totally focused on the customer, it was a refreshing attitude that permeated from the owners throughout the whole business. Meaning from order to delivery performance is absolute priority.”

Instrumental in the development of Cases24 and the commercial success of the business, Alex became Managing Director of the Cases24 business in 2018, which coincided with the investment in Casemaker 4, a 3 colour 2.5m LMC quickset machine. It was a busy period, which Alex talks about fondly, “We had a few challenges with new equipment and a fully automated line, which required a brilliant team effort to resolve. Once we achieved that we didn’t look back, achieving a series of production world records. This undoubtedly improved lead times significantly and enabled the next leap in operational excellence and customer delivery performance.”

The success of the new casemaker led to further investment in Phase 1 at Coalville, which included a new materials handling line, a double pallet inserter, a transfer car, and a strapper. Phase 1 unlocks further growth opportunities and site development.

As part of a vision for the Board24 group senior leadership team, recently Alex has been promoted to become Managing Director of the Coalville site with a responsibility for nearly 200 team members. Also leading the Make It Safe vision, delivering operational excellence, leading a customer centric culture whilst employer and supplier of choice.

Alex describes the role, “I have a clear vision to remain totally focused on maintaining our strong customer service reputation and have no intention of wanting to let that slip. Enabling that sustainably in the future, our people come first and with the right development we have every opportunity to continue our growth and be totally focused on the customer.”

Outside of his working day, Alex’s family life revolves around two young boys and he tries to stay active cycling and running having completed nearly thirty half marathons and two marathons.
