The New Packaging Heroes

Sustainable packaging is becoming a higher priority for both brands and consumers – more now than ever before.

Heinz tomato sauce bottles may be switching from glass to paper in the future. In keeping with the general trend for more sustainable packaging, one of the world’s most iconic pieces of packaging – known for its slow pour, the ’57’ stamp, the bottom slapping – is undergoing a development process to create a more renewable and recyclable bottle.

Heinz ketchup is going from red to green.

Heinz announced that the brand had teamed up with Pulpex —to develop a renewable and recyclable bottle made from 100-percent sustainably-sourced wood pulp.

Like many brands, the Kraft Heinz Company has set several forward-looking environmental goals: namely, to make all packaging recyclable, reusable, or compostable by 2025 and achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Kraft Heinz CEO Miguel Patricio said he hopes a paper ketchup bottle can help them get there.
