Manual Handling Training with Olympic Weightlifting Techniques

On the 17th and 18th August, 25 operatives from the case maker area took part in a Manual Handling Course. Pristine Condition, a world leading organisation specialising in manual handling delivered hands-on training at the Coalville site. Cases24 have previously used Pristine Condition, so they were invited back for a refresher session.

Manual handling is a big part of a casemaker operative duties; therefore, training is essential to raise awareness of the dangers associated with lifting and handling and the practical steps that can be taken to minimise and prevent injuries.

Pristine Condition utilised the science of Olympic weightlifting techniques derived from an in-depth understanding of the mechanics of weightlifting at an Olympic level, and how it reduces pressure on the body when carrying out daily tasks. Their founder and CEO, Davy Snowdon, was a conditioning expert for the Olympic Federation covering all sports for two Olympic Games and a former Weightlifting Guinness Book World Record holder.

This has been an invaluable experience for the case operatives. Everyone came away from the training with knowledge how to set themselves up correctly for lifting. Simple adjustments like moving your feet can stop you from twisting and prevent a serious injury.
