Board24 employee Adam Baker laced up his walking boots and took to the Great Wall of China in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Adam took part in the Great Wall of China trek on 18th October 2014 to help raise vital funds that help keep Macmillan to do the best job they can, to support people living with cancer.
Adam reflects on his amazing experience;
“It all started at the airport on the Saturday, driving down to Heathrow for a night flight, knowing that I have no idea who my fellow Trekkers were was quite nerve racking. Luckily everybody got on well as there was 19 of us, which was a good sign.
“We landed in Beijing the following day to meet our tour guides Martin and Tony. We then went to our first nights’ accommodation for a really long rest as the following day was the start of the fantastic journey. It was an early start Monday morning, everybody excited and a little nervous for today’s first trek on the wall. We arrived at the wall and we were all amazed at the sheer scale and length as it weaved through the mountains like a giant snake.
“First thing that was brought to my attention was the amount of steps, thousands and thousands of them, some big, some small. As the days went on and the miles slowly reduced I still could not believe the scale, history and beauty of the wall in all of its settings, in total over the five days we trekked around 70 miles. An incredibly hard challenge but also very rewarding.
“It was a truly incredible experience and all for an amazing cause that is close to my heart and my family’s too. The fundraising total now stands at £4,700 and hopefully more to come, which is truly incredible and wouldn’t have been possible without all of your kind donations. It really does mean a lot to me and Macmillan Cancer Support. Thank you to everyone that has lovingly donated to over the last year and also to helping me achieve my fundraising target which was easily achieved with all of your great generosity.”
