Logson Group are delighted to announce the appointment of David Grainger as Health, Safety and Environment Manager with effect from 1st January 2015.

Previously David had been providing HSE support to the Group as part of his job with lnternational Safety Services. In his new role, David will be splitting his time working with Board24 and Boxes and Packaging, which will enable the sites to significantly speed up progress in Health and Safety improvement programmes.

David comments on his new role; “Although I have been involved with the majority of the sites for a number of years, as a safety advisor and a consultant, my new position won’t necessarily be an easy transition. There are numerous challenges facing the business in 2015, including the extension at Board24 Preston. All of these will involve stringent contractor management to ensure the work goes smoothly, and safely.

During 2014, I took a number of staff through a two day safety course, the feedback from which was varied and interesting. However, whilst staff look to management as safety leaders, safety leadership is not linked to any one position within the company. Anyone can, and should be, a safety leader.

Communication is key to managing safety. Staff have good ideas on how their site could improve in one way or another but, are sometimes reluctant to promote them. I am always open to suggestions and welcome discussions during site visits.

Finally, bear in mind that health and safety is about preventing people from being injured at work.  I would like to think that, between us, we can continue to reduce the number of reported accidents and incidents and keep everyone healthy and safe.”

The Team is looking forward to working with David and welcome him in to the Logson Group.
