Hodgson School get Creative with Cardboard

Board24 have been providing Hodgson Academy, based in Poulton-le-Fylde, Lancashire, with corrugated cardboard for the past 3 years.

Brian Kenwright, Teacher of Art, Design & Technology at Hodgson Academy reached out around 3 years ago to Eric Marshall, Operations Manager at Preston. Board24 was able to fulfil the need for the local school and kindly donated an enormous amount of cardboard.

Hodgson is a busy and vibrant school with plenty of connections to Board24. Brian has taught several members of the Board24 staff over the years.

Initially, the donated cardboard was used as material for modelling in GCSE classes. It is now a requirement across both key stages as the new curriculum focuses on modelling and testing the product. The cardboard assists the students to achieve both parts of the criteria.

The benefits of modelling with the cardboard have now passed down to Key Stage 3. They are now designing and making a ‘Maze ball game’, which they use the cardboard to construct their models. The game is based on all 4 motions of movement: linear, rotary, reciprocal, and oscillating motion. The students enjoy creating the model with the aiming of passing a ball through the maze to the target area using all 4 motions.

Brian commented, “without a doubt, Board24 have enhanced our student experience, by providing us with materials to which the students can easily use and get fabulous results from.”
