Andrew Douglas recently joined Board24 as Health and Safety Advisor for the Coalville site. Andrew believes everyone should go home at the end of their working day in the same state of health as when they arrived. His role helps to ensure that this is the case.
Day to day you might see him conducting safety audits, reviewing safe processes, driving safety interaction from the workforce, and conducting incident investigations. Andrew is also responsible for a few larger safety related projects including the introduction of proximity sensors to protect our workers in the loading bays and warehouse, and site security.
It’s a bit of a change from his previous role. Andrew left the Royal Navy in October having spent the last 8 years of a 29-year career, in 29 Commando Regiment. He explained:
‘My last role as Lead Craft Operator, saw me overseeing the operational delivery, and training, of a fleet of inflatable raiding boats and operators.. It was a pretty cool job and required, lots of safety consideration! I also managed Troop insertion from helicopter by abseil and fast rope, delivering instruction to personnel required to undertake this high-risk activity. This was a great way of becoming familiar with working at height regs!’
Andrew brings a fresh perspective to Board24 Coalville. ‘A key focus for me now is setting in motion a Health, Safety, and Wellbeing Committee for the Coalville site to improve communications on H&S matters, encourage workforce interaction, and get insight from the shop floor about where we should be focussing our attention. I’m looking for representatives from each department and shift to bring forward their ideas and concerns of their team as well as deliver feedback to their teams on best practice and where we are collectively heading with H&S drives and projects.”
Outside of work, Andrew’s active in the gym and goes trail running; both of which support him as a professional Mountain Leader. Andrew loves rock climbing and mountaineering, and of course spending some time with his wife, Kathryn, children, Eliza and Matthew, and dog, Benji!
