Last week saw the UK’s annual Mental Health Awareness Week take place, created and hosted by Mental Health Foundation.
This year’s focus was Anxiety, an emotion that we all experience but one that can get out of control when we’re placed in unfamiliar or unpleasant situations.
Recognising that this could be something that many of our team members currently experience or have done so in the past, we arranged for professionals from mental health charity, Mind, and Scotland ‘s national mental health charity, SAMH, to attend at our sites to reinforce the messages and help people take the very best care of their mental health at work and home.
Mind also created its own campaign around the negative impact that the cost-of-living crisis is having on people’s mental wellbeing – combined there were challenges anyone could be facing.
Bringing lots of useful information with them for colleagues to take away and read, it was great to see so many people taking advantage of the books and leaflets and openly discussing their own experiences, or how they were feeling.
Judith Chadwick, Head of HR, Board24 and Cases24 commented; “It’s really important to us that we look after our employees, both mentally and physically, and extending our support by hosting events like this encourages more people to open up or seek help, should they need to do so.
“There are so many facets to mental health and wellbeing. By educating our team members to recognise what feels right and wrong for them, and by highlighting that help is available, meant that last week’s events were hugely worthwhile.”
The team can also access a range of Bite Sized Books by Liggy Webb covering topics such as wellbeing, Health Eating and Resilience.
Mind has many online resources that people can download or read and offers a support line to those who may wish to talk to someone. Further details can be found by visiting https://www.mind.org.uk/
