On Sunday 9th of June, our Control Room Operator, Shaun Culpin, took part in a 5k sponsored walk at Winstanley House in Leicester. This is the annual ‘Butterfly Walk’ which raises money for Breast Care Awareness with the Leicester Hospitals Charity.
Shaun tells us a little more about the event, and what inspired him to take part: “I have been involved with the Butterfly Walk for the past 3 years, each year I raise money by walking with my son, we meet lots of patients, their families, staff from the Breast Care Centre, it’s a very humbling day.
“My partner, around 4 months after the birth of our son, attended the Glenfield Breast Care Centre due to finding a lump. The care and compassion that the staff gave to us was amazing. Thankfully the lump was nothing sinister, however we met patients that were going through intense treatment, and all of them spoke very highly of the care they had received from the Centre.
“I am sure we all know someone, both women and men that have had breast care treatment, it means a lot to me that one day out of the year I can help to raise funds and awareness of Breast Cancer, supporting Glenfield breast care centre and Leicester Hospitals Charity.”
Shaun and his Son completed the 5k walk in just over an hour and raised a fantastic £270 for the charity, which he will be submitting to our W&R Barnett Charity Matching Scheme.
