World Mental Health Day 2020

World Mental Health Day 2020 is the most important one yet. This year has been a tough one for a lot of people. The months of lockdown and loss have had a huge impact on mental health.

According to research*, with over 16,000 people, we know that more than half of adults (60%) and over two thirds of young people (68%) said their mental health got worse during lockdown. Research shows that many have developed new mental health problems as a result of the pandemic and, for some of us, existing mental health problems have gotten worse.

Lockdown has affected people in different ways, and it is only normal to feel uncertain about what the future holds. The stress of this uncertainty could be having an impact on your mental health too.  Whatever you’ve been through this year, World Mental Health Day is a chance to make a positive change for the mental health of the workplace. But it can be hard to know where to start sometimes.

Prioritising mental health has never been more important than it is now. So this year, Mental Health Charity – Mind, want to bring everyone together to mark World Mental Health Day on 10 October.

This year they are encouraging everyone to do one thing for better mental health. Whether it’s going for a walk, learning a new skill or doing something creative, taking the first steps to getting support for yourself, or reaching out to someone else.

Making a positive change can seem so hard, especially during uncertain times. And sometimes, it can be hard to know where to start. Whether you want to take the first steps towards getting some help or learn more about helping those around you, Mind’s information, support and online communities can help get you started.

Board24 have an employee assistance programme in place which provides dedicated resource designated to support employee’s health and wellbeing, providing confidential access to resources to help with life’s challenges.
