Wishes For Kids – Charity Run

Share

On Sunday the 28th April almost 43,000 people ran the London Marathon in aid of charity. One of which was our FLT Driver, Dean Mills, who completed the Marathon in 4 hours and 7 minutes wearing a purple fairy costume.

Dean ran for a local charity called ‘Wishes 4 Kids’ who grant the wishes of children based in Leicestershire who are life limited, terminally ill or have experienced life-changing trauma.

Dean told us: “As a keen runner I’ve wanted to run the London Marathon for a while. When I was given the opportunity to run for Wishes 4 Kids it was even better because it is such an amazing local charity; they grant wishes to Leicestershire children who have terminal or life-altering illnesses. I went to visit their office and was blown away by the amazing work that they do. These children are often going through the worst things imaginable but the charity gives them something to remember. This is anything from trips to Disneyland, to meeting their heroes, to technology that keeps them busy during long stays in hospital.”

Dean managed to raise over £2000 on his fundraising page which was then matched by W & R Barnett Group’s match-funding scheme, totalling over £4000 raised for this incredibly worthy cause.

Dean continues: “Training for and running the marathon was one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life but the support given by everybody was what got me through on the day. I would really like to thank everyone at Board24 who sponsored me and sent me good wishes; it really was appreciated and helped massively towards my target.”

Dean had a great day and looked very striking in his purple fairy outfit. Dean is also involved in other charity work, including ‘The Tortoises and the Hares’ who have several charity events planned this year to raise money for Prostate Cancer.
